Our Facilities

We operate a “key person” system which offers you and your child a primary carer and point of contact. This carer will be responsible for welcoming your child into the nursery, helping them to settle in, form friendships and adapt to their new routine.

Imps: 0 to 12 months

These very young children are cared for by our trained and dedicated staff in our bright, sunny room which we call our Imps room.

The toys and equipment in this room have been carefully chosen for babies to enjoy, whilst at the same time teaching them to develop and master essential basic skills. We provide children with their own bedding baskets, and a separate quiet rest area ensures the children can sleep/rest when necessary.

During the initial stages of nursery life we shall endeavour to follow the routine set by each individual allowing them to feed, rest and play when they require. A key person system compliments this by ensuring that individual needs are met. A daily diary is provided detailing all aspects of information about your baby’s day, and of course, members of staff are always available to discuss any aspects of your child’s day at any time.

Little Pixies: 12 to 18 months

At approximately 12 months old or when your child becomes more mobile, they move to the Little Pixies room. The staff in this room work closely with the baby room staff so that the transition is as smooth as possible.

Since this is one of the smaller groups in the nursery, we are able to offer a more gentle introduction to the nursery routines. There are plenty of activities to keep the little ones busy, including arts and crafts, messy play, story time, singing and dancing.

This room is intended to be a stepping-stone between the Imps and the Pixies. Children in this room are generally becoming more mobile and inquisitive but aren’t quite steady enough to join the older children. The activities enjoyed in this room are similar to those in the Pixies room.

Pixies: 18 months to 2 yrs

At approximately 18 months old, and when you and we feel your child is ready to embark on the next stage of nursery life, the children transfer to the Pixies room.

Children in this room are encouraged to take part in all nursery activities including paint, sand, water, messy-play, singing, music and movement and of course plenty of toys. If all this becomes too much, there is a quiet area for stories and rest-time.

Outdoor play sessions and activities are organised in our secure play area, weather permitting. Children will now be encouraged to follow the routines of the nursery.

Elves: 2 to 2 and a half yrs

Free sessions are available for eligible 2 year olds! * Please click here for more details!

Between the ages of 2-2.5 years, children are cared for in the Elves room. A structured day is planned to build on the skills already achieved in the Imps and Pixies rooms and activities such as dance and movement, ball games and floor activities are organised, though children are still given time for free play.

Throughout the week, each child will participate in many activities ranging from messy play, to construction and discussion, using a wide range of books and resources.

Although the children are closely supervised, they are encouraged to become more independent and tolerant of others. Children are given plenty of time for outdoor play in our secure play area.

Gnomes: 2 and half to 3 yrs

Free sessions are available for eligible 2 year olds! * Please click here for more details!

In this room children continue to follow the Early Years Foundation Stage Framework and their day starts with registration time. During this time the children sit in a circle and talk about what they have done or any news that they have to tell the rest of the group. This helps to build confidence and relationships.

The Gnomes room is split into different areas: the home corner, where role-play and imaginative play are encouraged, problem solving, reasoning and numeracy, language and literacy, art and crafts area and a book corner. Again, outdoor play is considered an essential part of the daily routine.

Pre-School: 3 to 5 yrs

Free sessions are available for all 3 and 4 year olds! * please ask for details!

The Pre-School room caters for  varied children between the ages of 3-5, and in this room the aim is to prepare the child for a successful transition into full-time education. Children are encouraged to sign in and out on the board. In this room activities include messy play, role play, imaginative play, music, movement, ICT and plenty of free choice.

Children are given activity bags to take home from time to time to help develop their understanding of the 7 areas of learning. We operate a ‘free flow’ outdoor play system so that the children can choose to go outside as they please. We also have PE twice a week where the children get changed ready for a physical activity session.
